CPPICS
Centre for Programmable Photonic Integrated Circuits and Systems (CPPICS) is one of the centre of excellence (CoE) initiatives by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Govt. of India. It is hosted by Department of Electrical Engineering, IIT Madras with a long-term mission for catering R&D in the area of programmable photonic integrated circuits and systems using CMOS compatible silicon photonics technology for solving various levels of complex problems. The immediate focus of this CoE is to provide better solutions for microwave and quantum photonics applications such as advanced photonic processors to be used in high-performance RF transceivers, scalable linear optical quantum computing (LOQC) processors for the next generation qubit computation, and chip-level quantum key generation and distribution circuits, etc.
“The true laboratory is the mind, where behind illusions we uncover the laws of truth” – J C Bose
With 15 years of expertise in demonstrating novel integrated silicon photonic devices, our current focus is on research and development of system-in-package µwave and quantum photonics devices and circuits for system-level applications.
We are equipped with state-of-the-art nano-fabrication facilities in our Centre for NEMS and Nanophotonics (CNNP) along with the CoE-CPPICS integrated photonics device processing infrastructures.
We are building world-class facilities capable of characterizing stand-alone photonics devices to more advanced field programmable photonic integrated circuits to be designed and fabricated for microwave and quantum photonic applications.
Over the years, a series of passive and active silicon photonics integrated devices and circuits have been successfully demonstrated in-house for cutting edge applications.
Upon successful packaging of standalone integrated photonic devices, we are developing the system-in-packaging of programmable photonic integrated circuits in collaboration with izmo Microsystems.
Global industry-standard photonics design software such as Ansys Lumerical, COMSOL and Cadence Photonics are available at CPPICS-CoE to design our Photonic Integrated Circuits and Systems.
CPPICS – CoE is collaborated with National and International Academic pioneers and Industry experts to meet the mission and vision.
Meet our team of experienced and knowledgeable professors, industry experts, passionate and energetic research scholars & engineering staff under the same umbrella of CoE-CPPICS!
