Prof. Shayan Mookherjea

Prof. Shayan Mookherjea, is a professor at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), USA. His research interests include on-chip silicon and lithium niobate photonics for quantum and microwave applications. He is our VAJRA faculty since 2019 for a period of three years. He has already made his first visit in December 2019 for one month, and our research scholars are already in touch with his research group exchanging ideas and knowledge. Prior to his VAJRA assignment, he offered a GIAN course on “Silicon Photonics: Linear, Nonlinear, and Quantum Integrated Optical Devices and Circuits” together with the principal investigator of this proposal.

Prof. Wim Bogaerts

Prof. Wim Bogaerts, Ghent Univ. Belgium. Has given his consent letter strongly expressing his willingness to participate in our proposed CoE as an International Collaborator. He is a professor in the Photonics Research Group of Ghent University and IMEC. His specializations are in the design of complex photonics circuits and programmable photonics. He is a senior member of IEEE, SPIE, the Optical Society and is a travelling lecturer of the OSA.

Prof. Jose Capmany

Prof. Jose Capmany, Univ. Polit De Valencia, Spain, is the one who demonstrated the first FPPGA core processor for microwave photonics applications. He has agreed to become one of the International Collaborators for the proposed CoE. He was awarded an Advanced Grant by the European Research Council (ERC) in 2016 to develop the programable photonic circuits for Microwave Photonics applications. More recently, he has been awarded a Proof of Concept Grant by the ERC to start a company devoted to programable photonics. Prof. Capmany is currently the coordinator of the EU-funded Project Neoteric, which aims to apply programmable photonics to Neuromorphic computing.
